Location, history and cows

The Shippon is a converted cow barn. The building is Victorian, and in 2021 it was modernised into the beautiful rural retreat it is today.

The Shippon is part of a small collection of barn conversions that make up the Weston Farm Estate. Most people are lucky to live here all the time, but we use it as a bolt hole whenever we are able.

And even have our own resident cow -  Ermintrude! Don't worry she isn't messy. She just stands quietly in the corner.

The Shippon has double bi-fold doors with amazing views across the valley. You can spot pigs, sheep, cows, horses, chickens and a llama if you’re lucky!

It’s
a ten- minute drive into Dawlish and the coast, and you’re on the doorstep of the Dartmoor National Park.
A car is essential.

Here are some of the British artisans who have supported us. It’s great to be able to showcase their work:

Pineapple Fibre Art:  Emma Manson makes stunning contemporary crochet art, using hand-dyed yarn in every colour imaginable. Her intricate patterns evoke memories of vintage doilies, while her modern interpretation brings freshness. An example of Emma’s work can be seen above the bed in the yellow and green bedroom.

Chroma Sparks:  Bespoke metal works and finishes is Jan Bujak‘s specialty. From skirting boards and tiles, to mirror frames and furniture, he is able to fabricate almost anything from a base of brass, copper or steel. Our three-metre dining table, fits the space perfectly, echoing the copper handles in the kitchen, and the pops of orange around the room.

Chair Supply:  Either end of the dining table are high-back Windsor chairs with a tale to tell. There are various designs of Windsor chairs around the country and this design is particular to Devon. The arms of the Yealmpton chair are a continuous curve from the back. Chair Supply has a huge range of designs, available in a wide range of finishes and colours.

Monsoon Dragonfly:  If you’re looking for the quality of traditional furniture with a contemporary twist, Fiona Roberts is someone worth knowing. With her passion for hand-painted vintage furniture, she upcycled the beautiful persimmon sideboard, which makes a real statement against the navy wall.
